Uses and Classification of Carrier Tape

Uses: Suzhou carrier tape is primarily used in the electronic component mounting industry. It works in conjunction with cover tape to carry and store electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, transistors, and diodes in the pockets of the Suzhou carrier tape. A cover tape is then sealed on top of the carrier tape to form a closed package, protecting the electronic components from contamination and damage during transportation. During component mounting, the cover tape is peeled off, and automatic mounting equipment uses index holes on the Jiangsu carrier tape to accurately position and sequentially remove the components from the pockets and place them onto the integrated circuit board.

Classification by Width: Carrier tapes are available in different widths depending on the size of the electronic components they carry. Common widths include 8mm, 12mm, 16mm, 24mm, 32mm, 44mm, and 56mm. With the expansion of the electronics market and the trend towards smaller chips, carrier tapes are also becoming increasingly finer; 4mm wide carrier tapes are now available on the market.

Based on function: To protect electronic components from electrostatic damage, some delicate electronic components have specific requirements for the antistatic rating of the carrier tape. According to different antistatic ratings, Jiangsu carrier tapes can be divided into three types: conductive, antistatic, and insulating.

Based on pocket forming characteristics: Embossed carrier tapes and stamped carrier tapes. Embossed carrier tapes refer to pockets formed by stretching parts of the carrier tape material through mold pressing or vacuum forming methods. This type of carrier tape can be formed into pockets of different sizes to suit the specifications of the electronic components it contains.
